Question from Carl, a parent:

two jets leave denver at 9 am. One flying east at a speed of 50 km per hour greater than the other which is traveling west. At 11 am the planes are 2500 km apart. Find their speeds.

Hi Carl.

Here's a hint:

The eastbound plane is going 50 km/hr faster and the total time is 2 hours, so the eastbound plane has gone 100 km further.

Therefore, the westbound plane has gone half of 2500-100 km in this time.

Can you take it from here?

Cheers,
Stephen La Rocque
