Hi Joyce, A mixed number consists of an integer and a fraction such as "five and three quarters" or "nine and three fifths". To express a common fraction such as $\frac{48}{5}$ as a mixed fraction and organizing the numerator 48 into groups of size 5. How many groups are there? Forty eight divided by five is nine with a remainder of three. In other words you have nine and three fifths of a group of five. Thus \[\frac{48}{5} = 9 \frac{3}{5}.\] Now try $\frac{94}{5}.$ Penny | ||||||||||||
