Question from Lauren, a student:

Solve one using the method of substitution and the other with the method of elimination.

a. y=5x+4
x=2y+1

b. 4x+3y=7
6x-3y=13

Hi Lauren,

Your problem a. is set up nicely for the method of substitution. Look at my response to an earlier question and apply the technique to your problem.

Problem b. is a candidate for the method of elimination. Look at this earlier question for an example.

I hope this helps. Write back if you need more assistance,
Penny
