Question from Mamie, a student: Two speed boats leave the port of San Francisco traveling in opposite directions at the same time.One boat travels 8 knots per hour faster than the other. After one day's travel they are 1,920 nautical miles apart.What are the speeds of the two boats. |

Suppose the slower boat travels at $k$ knots (that is $k$ nautical miles per hour). How fast is the faster boat travelling? In one hour how far apart are they? In 24 hours how far apart are they? Yo know that is 1,920 nautical miles. Solve for $k.$
