Question from MC, a student:

Solve 2x − 1 ( 1 − 2x) = 1 ( 2x − 2x) for x

I am befuddled! Thank you for any explanation you can give that show me the steps.
I know the order in which I should tackle it, but am so confused regarding how to
assume x. Thank you!

MC,mc

On looking at this equation I have two observations.

  1. On the right side (2x - 2x) = 0 and 1 × 0 = 0 so the right sides is 0.

  2. On the left side -1(1 - 2x) = (-1) × (1) + (-1) × (-2x) = -1 + (2x) = -1 + 2x

Hence the equation becomes

2x - 1 + 2x = 0.

Can you complete the problem from here? Write back if you need more assistance,
Penny
