Question from Ryan, a student:

A trapezoid has an area of 10.5 cm squared and parallel sides that measure 5.0 cm and 2.0 cm what is the height of the trapezoid

Hi Ryan,

I remember the area of a trapezoid as the average of the lengths of the parallel sides, times the distance between that parallel sides. You have parallel sides of length 5.0 cm and 2.0 cm so the average is (5.0 + 2.0)/2 = 3.5 cm.This times the "height" is the area. What is the height?
