Question from bianca, a student:

-8(3x+4)+6x=4(x-8 )+4x

Hi Bianca,

I assume you are to solve this equation for $x.$ Let me look at the right side first, $4(x - 8) + 4x.$

You should expand this by multiplying 4 times $x - 8$ so that the right side becomes

\[4 \times x - 4 \times 8 + 4x = 4x - 32 + 4x.\]

Collecting like terms gives

\[8x - 32.\]

Perform similar steps to the left side and then see if you can complete the problem.

Write back if you need more assistance,
Penny
