Question from jamie, a parent:

how many 16in by 16in blocks would it take to cover a 16ft by 16ft floor?

Hi Jamie,

There are 12 inches in a foot so 16 feet is $12 \times 16$ inches. $\large \frac{12 \times 16}{16} = \normalsize 12$ so 12 of your 16 inch square tiles will fit in a row along one side of the floor. The floor is also 16 feet wide so it will take 12 of these rows to cover the floor. $12 \times 12 = 144$ so you need 144 tiles.
