Question from Joyce, a student:

Jake can travel 37 miles in 3 seconds, please calculate jake's rate of speed.(round to 2 decimal places)

Hi Joyce,

Wow! Jake's car is really fast. Many times faster than the world land speed record.

You didn't say what units you wanted. He goes 37 miles in 3 seconds so he goes one-third of 37 miles in one second. That is his speed is

\[\frac13 \times 37 \mbox{ miles per second}.\]

Divide 37 by 3 and round the result to 2 decimal places.
