Question from Makell, a student:

X^2 + 32x + 220 = 0

Hi Makell,

You need to find integers $a$ and $b$ so that $x^2 + 32 x + 220 = (x - a)(x - b).$ Expanding the right side gives $x^2 + 32x + 220 = x^2 + (a + b)x + ab.$ The question is then what two integers $a$ and $b$ give $a + b = 32$ and $ab = 220?$
