Question from Pragun, a student:

Three metallic cubes whose edges are in the ratio 3:4:5 are melt to form a single cube whose diagonal is 12*square root of 3. What are lengths of the edges(in cm) of the three cubes

Hi Pragun,

Since the three cubes have edges with lengths in the ratio of 3:4:5 there is a number s so that the side lengths of the three cubes are 3s, 4s and 5s units. What are the volumes of the three cubes? What is the sum of the volumes?

This is the volume od a cube with side length a units and diagonal of length $12 \sqrt{3}$ units. Solve for a.

I hope this helps,
Penny
