Question from saptarshi, a student: [ A clock takes 3 seconds to strick the hour of 3 o'clock. How many seconds will it take to strick 9 o'clock?] |
Hint: Presumably you have thought of 9 seconds and been told that it is wrong. Your answer would have been based on an assumption that the time is entirely used up by the chimes, not the pauses between them.
You are presumably meant to assume that the actual chimes take no time, but the pauses between them do. This is not a very realistic assumption, either (and you may politely tell whomever set you the problem this!) The true answer is somewhere in between.
