Question from Victoria, a student:

When k^2 + 3kx + 13k +k^2x - 3x^2 is divided by (x-4) the remainder is 22. Find the value(s) of K.

Hi Victoria,

Let $f(x) = k^2 + 3kx + 13k +k^2x - 3x^2$ ( to save me some typing) then the fact that division by $(x - 4)$ leaves a remainder of $22$ means that there s a polynomial $p(x)$ so that

\[f(x) = p(x) ( x - 4) + 22\]

What is the result when x = 4?
