Question from Kyra, a student:

A belt connects a pulley of radius 8cm to a pulley of radius 6cm. Each point on the belt is travelling at 24 cm/sec. Find the angular velocity of each pulley.

Hi Kyra,

I can help get you started.

Let's start with the pulley of radius 8 cm. What is its circumference? A point on the circumference of the pulley moves at 24 cm/sec. How long does this point take to make one revolution of the pulley? One revolution of the pulley is $2 \pi$ radians so the point is moving at how many radians per second?
