Question from Morgan, a student:

Use the derivative rules to differentiate each of the following:
1. f(x)=1/x-1
2. f(x)= sqrt(x)

Hi Morgan,

For the first problem, $f(x) = \large \frac{1}{x - 1}$ I would suggest the quotient rule and remember that $f^{\prime}(1) = 0.$

For the second problem write $\sqrt {x} \mbox{ as } x^{1/2}$ and use the power rule.
