Question from Nina, a parent:

3x-2y=8
-x+3y=5
What is the solution of the system of equations

Hi Nina,

Perhaps the easiest way to solve this system is to first solve the second equation for $x,$ to get $x = 3y - 5.$ Now substitute $3y - 5$ for $x$ in the first equation and solve the resulting equation for $y.$ Once you know the value of $y$ you can use $x = 3y - 5$ to determine the value of $x.$
