Question from Whitley, a student:

How many square feet of tile do you need to cover the floor of a room that is 20ft, 25ft, 15ft, 20ft, 5ft, and 5ft

I made a replica of the floor

Hi Whitley,

A really nice feature of area is that you can partition a region into smaller pieces, find the areas of the individual pieces and ten add them to determine the area of the entire region. In the diagram you sent I added ar red line to partition the floor into two pieces.

floor

The larger piece is 20 ft by 20 ft. What is its area? The smaller piece is 5 feet by 5 feet. What is its area? What is the area of the floor?
