Question from Alvi, a student:

4x^3-7x^2-2x

Hi Alvi,

You didn't give any instructions but my guess is that you are to factor this expression.

In any factoring problem the first thing you should do is to look for common factors. In your expression $4x^3-7x^2-2x$ there is a common factor of $x$ so you can write

\[4x^3-7x^2-2x = x\left(4x^2 - 7x - 2\right)\]

Can you factor the quadratic?

Write back if you need more assistance,
Penny
