Question from arionne, a student: How do you solve a square root with improper fractions like 121 over 49

Arionne,

The useful information here is that

$\sqrt{\frac{a}{b}} = \frac{\sqrt{a}}{\sqrt{b}}.$

Penny

The same as with proper fractions: square root of numerator over square root of denominator.

Mixed fractions should usually be converted to improper fractions first.
