Question from Bernie:

How many cubic yards of dirt is in 19 acres if you dig down 12ft ?

Hi Bernie,

One acre is 43560 square feet so 19 acres is $19 \times 43560$ square feet. If you multiply that by the depth of 12 feet you will have the volume in cubic feet. There are 3 feet in a yard so that's $3 \times 3 \times 3 = 27$ cubic feet in a cubic yard. Thus you need to divide the volume in cubic feet by 27 to obtain the volume in cubic yards.
