Question from Charlotte, a teacher:

A bathtub needs to be filled with water. To fill the tub, a bucket needs to be filled then dumped into the tub. If the bucket is a cylinder with a radius of 6 in. and a height of 12 in, how many buckets will it take to fill the 5 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft tub.

Hi Charlotte,

I can help you get started.

The volume of a cylinder is $\pi \; r^2 h$ cubic units where $r$ is the radius of the cylinder and $h$ is its height. Calculate the volume of the bucket is cubic inches.

Convert the dimensions of the tub to inches and find the volume of the tub to cubic inches.
