Question from James, a student:

a step on a stairway is at least 8 inches high. write and solve an inequality to represent the maximum number of steps between floors that are 10 feet apart

Hi James,

Suppose the number of steps is $n$ and the height of each step is $h$ inches. Since 10 feet is 120 inches you have that $n \times h = 120.$ You know that each step is at least 8 inches high so $h \geq 8.$ Substitute into the first equation and solve for $n.$
