Question from linda, a parent:

Sam has a dog and rabbit together they weigh 104 lbs the dog weighs 12 times more then the rabbit what is the dogs weight

Hi Linda,

Is this the actual wording of the problem? it should say

Sam has a dog and rabbit together they weigh 104 lbs the dog weighs 12 times as much as the rabbit. What is the dog's weight?

Since the dog weighs 12 times what the rabbit weighs together they weigh 13 times what the rabbit weighs. Thus

\[13 \times \mbox{ (what the rabbit weighs) } = 104 \mbox{ lbs }\]

What does the rabbit weigh?

Penny
