Question from Michael, a student:

Find the equation of a line that passes through (2,-1); the sum of the x- and y-intercepts is 2. (There are two answers)

Michael,

Write the line in the form $y = mx + b$ and use the fact that the line passes through (2, -1) to write an equation in $m$ and $b.$ Use the fact that the sum of the intercepts is 2 to write another equation in $m$ and $b.$ Solve these two equations for $m$ and $b.$
