Question from PAVITHRA, a student:

Two dice are thrown. What is the probability that sum of the numbers appearing on the die is eleven, if five is appear on the first die

Hi Pavithra,

Look at my response to a similar question from Chiluya. Read the first paragraph and then focus on Method 1 but referring to your problem.

You have tossed the dice and you know the first die shows a 5. Thus you know you are in one of six cells in the table above. Can you see which six? Each of these six cells are equally likely. How many of them have 11 as the sum of the numbers appearing? What is the probability that the sum of the numbers appearing is 11 if the first die is 5?
