Question from Peter, a parent:

a runner ran a 26.2 mile marathon in 2hours 8minutes and 24secounds. the question is, what was his average time for each mile that he ran?

Hi Peter,

I think the appropriate time units here are minutes. The runner ran for 2 hours 8 minutes and 24 seconds, that's 120 minutes plus 8 minutes plus $ \large \frac{24}{60}$ minutes. Divide that total number of minutes by 26.2 miles to obtain the average number of minutes per mile.
