Question from Sid:

What is the estimated volume of scale (Liters) if you have a 12 inch ID pipe, 300 feet long with scale 1/2 inch thick. Please show me the method and formula. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Sid,

You can use our volume calculator, just follow the link to Volume calculator on the Quandaries and Queries page.

First find the volume of the pipe without scale, so that's a 300 foot length and a diameter of 12 inches. Next find the volume pipe now with the scale, so that's a 300 foot length and a diameter of 11 inches. The difference is the volume of the scale.
