Hello,

My name is Varsha. I am a student and below is my question:

1. The brine used in an industrial process is 12.5% salt by weight. What is the ratio (by weights) of salt to water to the brine?

Thank you,
Varsha

Hi Varsha,

Suppose the percentage salt by weight was 16% then the water by weight would be 100% - 16% = 84%. In this situation the ratio of salt to water would be 16:84. This ratio can be simplified as you would simplify a fraction. Here 4 divides both 16 and 84 so the ratio can be rewritten 4:21. This ratio can't be simplified any further.

Now try 12.5%,
Penny
