Question from Wayne, a teacher:

I'm trying to run an event with 20 players, I would like if at all possible to limit amount of people playing repetitively together. (Mix it up and play with different people). Here's the conditions. I want groups of 4 over 5 rounds. On each round I want 4 players to drop out and have a bye (to help run the game) but I don't want them helping a group they've played in if I can help it. Is this possible ?

Wayne,

This schedule http://mathcentral.uregina.ca/QQ/database/QQ.02.06/mona1.html has the property that any two players are together at most once. No 2 of the groups have 2 players in common. If you take the last foursome to be the four that help on the day, then that’s the best you can hope for.
