Question from Pulane, a student:

Hi math centre I've been trying to solve these equations for days now please help
(6/x)-(1/y)=4
(9/x)+1=(-2/y)

Please help me solve them simultaneously
Thank you

Hi Pulane,

I would first write the equations as

\begin{eqnarray*}
6 \frac{1}{x} - \frac{1}{y} & = & 4\\
9 \frac{1}{x} + 1 & = & -2 \frac{1}{y}.
\end{eqnarray*}

Now let $s = \frac{1}{x}, t = \frac{1}{y}$ and solve for $s$ and $t.$

Make sure you verify your answer.
