Question from Margret, a student:

when does sqrt(x^2+y^2)=x+y

Hi Margret,

with

\[\sqrt{x^2 + y^2} = x + y\]

I would first square both sides and then expand the right side and simplify. This should give you a good indication of the values of $x$ and $y$ if the equation is true.

Does this help?
