Question from Ronald:

If a rectangular piece of land is 1320 ft. on one side, how many feet would be required on the other side to equal 15.86 acres?

Hi Ronald,

I typed 1 acre in square feet into the Google search window and learned that 1 acre is 43560 square feet. Hence 15.86 acres is $15.86 \times 43560$ square feet. The area of a rectangle is the length times the width and you have a length of 1320 feet. Thus if the width is $W$ feet then

\[1320 \times W = 15.86 \times 43560.\]

Solve for $W.$
