Question from danaja, a student: solve for the following 3^2x-5=27

Hi Danaja,

The way you have written this it is

$3^2 x - 5 = 27$

in which case

$x = \frac{27+5}{9}.$

If you meant

$3^{2x} - 5 = 27$

you should have written 3^(2x)-5=27.

If this is the problem then I would add 5 to each side to get

$3^{2x} = 32$

and then take a logarithm of both sides.
