Question from danaja, a student:

solve for the following 3^2x-5=27

Hi Danaja,

The way you have written this it is

\[3^2 x - 5 = 27\]

in which case

\[x = \frac{27+5}{9}.\]

If you meant

\[3^{2x} - 5 = 27\]

you should have written 3^(2x)-5=27.

If this is the problem then I would add 5 to each side to get

\[3^{2x} = 32\]

and then take a logarithm of both sides.
