Question from Jamal:

1/x + 1/y =5 and 1/y - 1/x =-1

Hi Jamal,

Since

\[\frac{1}{x} + \frac{1}{y} = 5 \mbox{ and } \frac{1}{y} - \frac{1}{x} = -1\]

we know that

\[\left( \frac{1}{x} + \frac{1}{y} \right) + \left( \frac{1}{y} - \frac{1}{x}\right) = (5) + (- 1).\]

Simplify and solve for $y.$
