Question from Chloe:

so I have this paper and I'm confused, -4 + 3/2 =???? so I originally got -1/2 but I looked
at Calculator papa and he says -5/2 and then I looked at Google and all I got was -2.5 and i
am so confused and lost.

Hi Chloe,

-4 is $\large \frac{-8}{2}$ so

\[-4 + \frac32 = \frac{-8}{2} + \frac32 = \frac{-8 + 3}{2} = \frac{-5}{2}.\]

What is $\large \frac{-5}{2}$ in decimal form?

Penny
