Question from Miracle:

Could you please help me with the explanation of this problem. I've been all over Google and I believe the answer to be 1:90. What I don't get is the how or the question if that makes sense. Like how to get the answer. Thank you. ( A man in a photograph is 2cm tall. His actual height is 1.8m. Write a scale statement and determine the scale factor.)

Hi,

The height of the man in the photograph and his actual height are in different units. There are 100 centimeters in a meter so the man's actual height is $100 \times 1.8 = 180$ centimeters. Thus the ratio of the man's height to his height in the photograph is 180: 2 or 90:1.

I hope this helps,
Penny
