Question from Sue:

My little one is wondering if a circle with a circular hole could be described as an irregular semicircle.
As it has 2 sides but is not the standard shape. Could you share your thoughts ??

Hi Sue,

I'm not sure what you mean by a circle with a circular hole. Perhaps one of these?

irregular semicircle

I any case if you are doing mathematics and you have a shape or concept that doesn't have a name, you can name it yourself. Other people have to agree that your name is a good one so that you can talk about it and everyone knows what you mean.

Tell your little mathematician to keep generating good ideas,
Penny
