Question from Troy:

The base and the height of a right triangle are represented by the expressions below.
The area of the triangle is 28 square units. Find the lengths of the base and the height
of the triangle

base= x+4
height=x-6

Hi Troy,

The area of a triangle is given by

\[\mbox{ area } = \frac12 \mbox{ base } \times \mbox{ height.}\]

You know that the area i 28 square units so this gives you an equation in $x.$ expand, simplify, and then solve for $x.$
