Hi,
Suppose the number was $\large \frac{-1}{8}$ then since $8 = 2 \times 2 \times 2 = 2^3$ you can write
\[ \frac{-1}{8} = \frac{-1}{2^3} = -1 \times 2^{-3} = \left( -2 \right)^3.\]
