Question from Tolulope: Caleb age and Juliet age add up to 25 years. eight years ago,Caleb was twice as old as Juliet. how old are they now. |
I am going to use one letter, $C$ to stand for Caleb's age today and another letter, $J$ to stand for Juliet's age today. Sine the sum of their ages is 25 years you know that
\[C + J = 25.\]
This is the first equation.
What was Caleb's age 8 years ago? What was Juliet's age 8 years ago? At this time Caleb's age was twice Juliet's age. This gives you a second equation.
Solve the two equations for $C$ and $J.$
