Question from Daniel:

Hi
I’d like to know how many different outcomes would be in a
Soccer week played if there is 9 different games 2 teams and 3 outcomes
Win, tie or lose

Hi Daniel,

Suppose that on one particular game the red team plays the green team. There are three possible outcomes

  1. the red team wins and the green team loses
  2. the green team wins and the red team loses
  3. the two teams tie.

The same three possibilities apply to each game. Thus there are 9 games and each game has 3 possible outcomes so there are $3 \times 9$ possible outcomes for the 9 games.
