Question from Sue:

I need to know the outside square footage of a dome house 24ft across at the bottom and 16ft high so i know how much paint it will take to cover it.

Hi Sue,

The surface area of a circular dome is $2 \times \pi \times r \times h$ square feet where $h$ is the height of the dome and $r$ is the radius of the sphere, not the radius of the circular base of the dome. See the diagram in our response to a question from Charlie. You can find $r$ using the method in out response to a question from Chithrabhanu.
