Im in Grade ten and am doing linear equations, I cann't figure out how to make a chart for questions like y = -2x + 3

Hi Dylan

First set up a blank chart with column headings x and y. Next use the exprression y = -2x + 3, substitute values for x and see what values of y they produce.
   For example when

x = 0

then
y=-2x + 3
 =-2(0) + 3
 =3
So put x = 0, y = 3 into the chart.
xy
03

Now try
x = 1

then
y=-2x + 3
 =-2(1) + 3
 =-2 + 3
 =1
and add x = 1, y = 1 to the chart.
xy
03
11

For a change lets try a negative number, say
x = -2

then
y=-2x + 3
 =-2(-2) + 3
 =4 + 3
 =7
and add x = -2, y = 7 to the chart.
xy
03
11
-27
Now try some other values yourself.

Cheers
Penny
