I am trying to explain to my son (who is in the 8th grade) how to figure girth. I'm afraid I have just confused him. Is there a simply formula to figure the girth of a box.

for example: I have a box that is 27" L X 22" W X 21" H.

Thank you for your help.

Middle Level Question

Hi Carolyn,

Stand the box on end, that is put on the floor with the longest dimension vertical. Now, with your tape, measure around the box as you would reach around it. This measurement is the girth. With your box the girth is 22 + 21 + 22 + 21 = 86 inches.
