I work in Carpet Manufacturing and I need to know how to figure the calculation for a roll of carpet in centimeters. For example: a 12 x 100 roll of carpet equals 133.34 square yards, which is 100 linear ft. and 1,200 square foot.  Can you please tell me how I would figure to get CENTIMETERS???????
Thank you!
Vicky

Hi Vicky

The conversion factor that is worth rembering is that 2.54 cm = 1 inch, although it probably makes more sense to work in metres and square metres than centimetres and square centimetres. (By the way, if you are in Canada then the spelling is as you see it here. We use meter to refer to a device that measures time--as in parking meter, electricity, water, etc.)
Since there are 2.54 cm in an inch there are 12x2.54 cm = 30.48 cm in a foot. So a 12'x100' roll becomes a 365.76 cm x 3048 cm roll which can be called a 3.6576 m x 30.48 m roll or more likely it could be considered as a 3.6 m x 30.5 m roll. The area of the roll is 3.6576 m x30.48 m = 111.48364 m^2 or about 111.5 m^2. If you do want to change metres to centimetres multiply by 100 and if you want to change square metres to square centimetres multiply by 100^2 (10 000). I hope that this helps.
