Subject: fraction division

I am needing specific examples that illustrate division of fractions with In-depth understanding. I am enrolled in a CGI (cognitivly guided instruction) course which is trying to develop a method of teaching fraction division with understanding. Most people invert and multiply to obtain a correct answer. Why? I would like help in understanding this method that includes pictures and algorithms that illustrate reasoning and depend on understanding. Please E-mail your response to:

Dear Brett,
Try to find the book Fraction Blocks, F Glanfield & K Pallos-Haden, Exclusive Educational Products and look at Chap 7. It is based on "What portion of --- is contained in ----?"

There is also a note in the Resource Room called Understanding Fractions that may help.
