Consider 8/2. You know that the answer is 4 but if I asked you to calculate it you would have to divide 8 by 2. Similarly, if you have 2/8 then you have to divide 2 by 8 and you will obtain 0.25 If you have 2/7 then you have to divide 2 by 7 and you get 0.142857142857142857... So, if you wish to change a fraction a/b into a decimal then you divide a by b.
