Subject: measure the surface of an elipse

Hello hope some one can help. We need to clean an elipse and then paint it. We need to know the square foot of the job and the job is an elipse which rises 2 ft. is 12 ft wide and is 36 ft long.
Mark

Hi Mark,

I am not sure that I understand the shape of the object that you have to clean and paint. An ellipse is a plane object and I don't understand "rises 2 ft." If you have an ellipse as in the diagram and the lengths a and b arre as shown then the area of the ellipse is pi*a*b. In your case a = 36/2 = 18 ft and b = 12/2 = 6 ft then the area is pi*18*6 which is approximately 339.3 sq ft.
Let me know if I have misinterpreted your problem.

Cheers
Harley
