If a product is priced at $4.99 and is marked up 40% how do I calculate the wholesale price?

Hi Lynda,

Percent means per one-hundred so 40% is 40/100. 40% of some number is 40/100 times the number thus 40% of 25 is (40/100)*25 = 10.

To mark up a price by 40% you add 40% of the price. Thus if an item is priced at $25.00 and it is marked up 40% then the wholesale price is $25.00 + (40/100)*$25.00 = $35.00
