Subject: Order of Operations
Hi, there.
You have a great site. Thanks a lot. I was wondering if you could tell me where I can get some info. on how to solve the following problem. I was given the answer but I don't know how it is solved.
4+2x(6x2)-5=23
Respectfully,
Dorothy
Hi Dorothy,
When evaluating a mathematical expression start inside the parentheses, next do any divisions and multiplications and finally any additions and subtractions.
4 + 2x(6x2) - 5 | first inside the parentheses -- 6x2 |
4 + 2x12 - 5 | next the multiplication -- 2x12 |
4 + 24 - 5 | now the addition -- 4 + 24 |
28 - 5 | and finally the subtraction -- 28 - 5 |
23 | |
Thus 4 + 2x(6x2)-5 = 23
Cheers,Penny
